What would be the best thing to do (in your opinion)?

I just found out from an MRI that I have bone spurs in my 4 cervical vertebrae, degenerative arthritis all throughout...A large spur on my 5th vertebrae and my 6th and 7th disc are almost completely gone..I have horrible pain at times and the doctor put me on pain meds until I go see a spinal surgeon to possibly have a fusion done...My question is I'm thinking I should just stay on pain meds until the pain is so bad, then being the last resort go have spinal surgery....I'm really do hesitate on having any surgery done on the neck or back area....Anyone have any thoughts?
